Kristina Color Inspiration #55

Happy Monday! Here's a little card for Kristina's Color Inspiration #55. This was a tough one! I made the card below first, but I wasn't totally thrilled, so I tried again and liked the one above better! lol! I used American Crafts stamps and a lot of Basic Gray for this one.


This one below I tried to stick truer to the inspiration piece, by using mostly cream and rust (Dusty Durango here), with some gray and just a tad of mustard. It seemed a little blah, so I added some Dazzling Diamonds to the flowers, but I think I added too much?

Kristina's Color Inspiration #54: Animal Stories

Happy Sunday! Hope everyone has had a good weekend! I played in the stamp room a lot, bad me! But I have an excuse, the washing machine is broken and thank goodness the part came in and the repairman will be here tomorrow afternoon! Let's just say, we're down to using beach towels after our shower! lol!


Kristina's Color Inspiration #54 snuck up on me this week, but I got a chance to play along last night. I used my new Animal Stories set, getting inspiration from this post by Tina over at travelingmama. Thanks, Tina! I really loved this poster by Land of Nod. Animals and alphabet letters seem to be all the rage lately, I even bought these by K & Company for 40% off for like $6 and laminated them to use in my classroom next year. Look how cute they are here in this nursery!


Sorry, I got off on a tangent there! The card didn't turn out exactly like I had envisioned, but it's okay. I think I should have used Cool Caribbean instead of Soft Sky, but I didn't think it so much that I redid the card! ha! ha!

Kristina Color Inspiration #53: You are one of a kind

Happy Tuesday! It's a short week, yay! I finally made one card last night for Kristina's Color Inspiration #53. She used a photo from the sweetest and most talented blogger, Anthonette Chavez, be sure and check out her amazing artwork. And isn't her son just the cutest?!


I'm running late, so this is quick, but wanted to leave you with a photo of my darling Nick taken on my lap with my iphone. We watched a LOT of America's Next Top Model re-runs while sick, so I decided to do a photo shoot with him yesterday. He needed a lot of instructions, like "I need a longer neck!" and "More emotion from the eyes!" but I think he nailed it with this one!

Kristina's Color Inspiration #51: Wish

Happy Thursday! That means it's almost Friday! I decided around 11:00 last night to make a card for Kristina's Color Inspiration #51, what is wrong with me?! I'm getting my days and nights seriously messed up, which is not good, since I still work days! ugh!


Everything is SU except for the *wish* by Making Memories and the Cuttlebug Houndstooth embossing folder. I was reaching for the usual Polka Dots, but didn't see it and saw this one and really like the way it looks! Happy accident! The pleated ruffle, the houndstooth, and the herringbone rub-on really makes me think it's a "Fashion Week" card! lol!



Okay, gotta get moving, I'm afraid it's definitely going to be a *stop for a large coffee on the way to work" day! And I'm wishing I hadn't agreed to go to a vocabulary workshop after school from 4-8! Doh!

Kristina Color Inspiration #48

Happy Sunday! I'm moving slow today (aka lazy!), but I did make this little card for Kristina Werner's Color Inspiration #48. I love these yummy colors! Here's a second photo of the card, I couldn't decide which angle I liked best! lol!


Hope you're having a great weekend! I had a great time at a scrapbooking baby shower for a teacher friend of mine last night. We all made two-page layouts for her baby album, then had yummy pizza and cake and watched her open her presents! Some speedy scrappers (not me!) even got more pages done for her! If you're thinking of throwing a shower, I highly recommend this kind, even never before scrappers were getting into it! We held it at a scrapbooking store so there were lots of supplies, and I brought stuff from home too, so no one felt like they had to buy stuff, but most of them did, ummmmm, including me! It was great fun!

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a good weekend! How do they always go by so fast and I get so little done! ugh!


I played around with Kristina's Color Inspiration #47 last night. Any kind of orange is always a challenge for me, so it's good for me to try (this is what I tell myself anyway!). I made the card below first, but thought maybe it was too plain, so I made the second card above. Nothing too original, you can't seem to go wrong if you fall back on the bow with a button! lol!


Off to work now...four weeks to get the 3rd and 4th graders ready for the math TAKS, the 4th graders ready for the reading TAKS, and the 3rd graders who failed the first reading TAKS ready for the retake. It's going to be a crazy few weeks!

Kristina Color Inspiration #46: U ROCK

Happy Saturday people! Hope your weekend is going well! We're having some beautiful weather here in Dallas, so I think I'm going to take the Nickster for a walk around the neighborhood, but I realized I better post this card for Kristina's Color Inspiration #46 before the deadline!


I really loved these colors and worked on this card Friday night, but I could never get it exactly like I saw it in my head (maybe because of the two margaritas I'd had!), so I finally gave up and moved on...to the couch! (My friends pooped out on the movies Friday night, so I had to come home and stamp! lol!) Anyway, I had some scraps of that "letter" paper leftover from this card laying on my desk, so that's where I started. I do love Kristina's challenges for making me mix colors that I would never think of on my own.

Mojo Monday #76: An Egg-cellent Easter

Happy Friday! Yay! Found time last night to make a card combining the Mojo Monday #76 sketch challenge and the Kristina Color Inspiration #44 challenge! You know what they say...work smarter, not harder! I've never been very good at that actually...



I used the uber-cute An Egg-cellent Easter set from the upcoming SU Occasions Mini Catalog. You might remember from this post that it's available to everyone right now! I loved it the minute I saw it, and I'm not one who usually buys "animals" or artwork that has to be "colored in"...y'alll know I'm lazy!

I applied the bunny girl piece with Dimensionals placed around the edges, leaving the center empty so you could pull the long piece out and use it as a bookmark. That only came to me after I was trying to figure out how to get the ribbon to work with the very cool new grommet (also from the new Occasions Mini Catalog, available April 1, and you can't even see it now behind the ribbon!). I ended up with the little loop accidentally and thought it was cute, so it became a bookmark. The white bunny part might look a little too plain, do you think?

Kazan's Sketch #20: sweet life

Happy Wednesday! (I just typed Thursday and had to go back and delete it, that tells you where my mind is!) I took a *teeny* nap (2 hours) earlier so decided to try and stamp a little something before bed. I'm a little rusty, so I looked for inspiration!

I used Kazan's fabulous Sketch #20 from 2S4Y as well as Kristina's Color Inspiration #42 for this sweet life card. With the layout and colors already decided on, there was hardly anything for me to do! hee! hee! When I saw the "scrolly" thing on Kazan's sketch I immediately thought of this pear from the new On Board So Tweet chipboard for some reason, so I went with that.

I usually suck at keeping up at blog awards and tags, but I'm trying to be better, because I really do appreciate people thinking of me. So thank you to Juanita at Rubber Side Down, whose become a great blog friend, for thinking of me for the Best Blog Comments Award!

Kristina's Color Inspiration #38: Hi and Hello

Schwooo! I made it! I decided at 7:30 I would try and make a card for Kristina's Color Inspiration #38! I think I've mentioned before that nothing motivates me like a tight deadline...drives me crazy, of course, but it really gets me moving! lol!


**edited to add: Awww man, Nancy just commented and I had until Saturday night to make this challenge! Blasted, I could have put it off for two more nights! hee! hee!

I had that flower made out of scallop circles already. It was created...and rejected...for a project back in December. The bottom layer had been chocolate chip polka dot dsp, but I tore that one off and added a ruby red scallop circle. Lastly, added a pumpkin pie button for the center and voila, done! I don't think it will be fitting inside an envelope, though...

How is your week going? I'm sure glad tomorrow is Friday! We're just about finished with all of our testing and benchmarking this week and identifying the students I'll be working with the next few months. I'm ready to get back to it!

Kristina's Color Inspiration #37: Loop to Loop Rub-Ons

I tried to get this posted last night, but my computer wasn't cooperating with me and dh was hogging the good computer, ha! ha! I was trying to finish in time (but that didn't happen!) for Kristina's Color Inspiration #37. I used Jen del Muro's Sketch for You to Try (LOVE her stuff!) and more of the new Loop to Loop Rub-Ons, can't seem to stop using them! This didn't turn out quite as I planned, but sometimes you just gotta roll with it!

Oh, I almost forgot to give credit...I got the idea of making the watercolor streaks in the background from a super cute card by Sharon Rogers at Stamping in My Neighborhood that you can see here. Kristina Color Inspiration #36: Owl Together Now

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! So sorry I basically abandoned the blog there for so long, yikes! We were traveling around Missouri for ten days, all of which time I was sick, and I didn't always have access to internet service. Yes, my Google Reader was up to a scary 696 unread posts! I'm still catching up! Then upon returning to Texas, we've had one computer problem after another, ugh! But I think dh just about has it all fixed up now.

I haven't stamped for soooo long, then decided at 7:30 CST that I'd try and make a card for Kristina's Color Inspiration Challenge #36. I'm loving this new owl set, Owl Together Now, but ya know I'm a lazy water colorer, so I used my retired Pure Color Pencils...they make it so easy! I am so rusty with my stamping, I better get back in there and keep practicing! lol! It took me about a day just to get the room and desk cleaned up so that I could even have space to stamp! How does that happen?!

Kristina's Color Inspiration #35: Winter Post

Happy Saturday! What a crazy week with more craziness ahead!, but I wanted to get a quick post up for the weekend! I didn't get a chance to play in Kristina's Color Inspiration #35 before the deadline Thursday, but I love these colors so much, I still wanted to give it a try!

Don't you love the yummy combo: Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa, Baja Breeze, So Saffron, and Very Vanilla! (Oops! Just realized I used white instead of vanilla, drats!) This may be the *simplest* card of all times, even for me, but I made it in about 15 minutes with scraps! I found the over-sized card already made up in my Earth Elements bin, and the scallop circle made from the Pennant Bigz XL Die and Big Shot was a reject from last weekend, because one scallop got chopped off...hence, the strategic placement of the felt flurry snowflake! lol!

I will be challenging myself to create things with limited supplies in the next few days (but I will be making a stop at Archiver's, yay!) so hopefully I'll have more to post soon, because right now, I got nothing! Kristina's Color Inspiration #34

Happy Wednesday! I should have gone to bed at 10:30, but I decided to really quickly make a card for Kristina's Color Inspiration #34: Perfect Plum, Pale Plum, Bordering Blue, Certainly Celery, and Sage Shadow. When I first started stamping, the Soft Subtles were my absolute favorite, especially Perfect Plum and Pale Plum, so I feel like I know these colors well! lol!

Since I was short on time, I took the challenge very *literally* and used my old snowman punch to make little snowmen going across in a row, just like her sample picture. Not too inventive, but I'll mail it off to a family member who will love it hopefully! I finally got the Polka Dot background stamp last week, and I'm loving it! The "merry" is from a retired set called "Cute Converse"...I saved it because I loved its little word sentiments. The star punch is also retired, but I like the "folk" look of it.

Alphabet Stew: Merry & Bright

Happy Thursday! The week is flying by and Christmas is coming too fast and the Christmas Bazaar/Bizarre is coming too fast, yikes! Deep breaths, deep breaths...so what did I do last night? Take a 2 hour nap and watch a movie! Ugh! I had rented some movies last Friday and we hadn't watched them yet, so I felt like we had to start watching them or what a waste of money that would be! Anyway, I highly recommend Lars and the Real Girl! It was the sweetest movie filled with love and family and community, and Ryan Gosling is amazing, I think there's nothing he can't do!

But back to the card...I decided at 11:00 p.m. I better make a card, so I combined Kristina's Color Inspiration #33 and Laura's Sketch #14 and came up with this...in 30 minutes even, which is really fast for me! lol! I used some retired paper and the retired Alphabet Stew stamp set, I always loved those jumbled up letter stamps and couldn't part with them. Kind of non-traditional Christmas colors, but what they hey! The finished size is 4 1/4" square, let me know if you have any questions.

Kristina's Color Inspiration #32: Always

Happy Tuesday! It's so great to be on Thanksgiving vacation already! Yesterday I had to finish up reading Breaking Dawn, the 4th book in the Twilight series (I did NOT like it although it got a little better half way through) then I went to see the Twilight movie with some non-Twilight reader friends. The movie was TERRIBLE, in my humble opinion, bad acting, bad directing, etc. and now these friends will never understand how good the book is, sigh. Oh well! But if you liked the movie, I'm happy for you, I wish I would have!

Anyway, finally cleaned up the stamp room a little bit today and made this card for Kristina's Color Inspiration #32. Again, I would never have put these colors together, but I loved them (I always love the more monochromatic look): Red Riding Hood, Sahara Sand, Very Vanilla, and Whisper White. This turned out a little plainer than I had hoped for, I think I should have stamped the bird on Red Riding Hood designer series paper instead of solid cardstock maybe? The bird is from the Always set, you might remember when I made him a solid color back from this post.

Well, I just worked out (I know, a miracle! Trying to make the most of this vacation and start back on some good habits), and now I better clean up and run a couple of errands before some stamp club girls come over tonight. Kristina's Color Inspiration #30 Trio

Happy Wednesday! I *loved* Kristina's Color Inspiration #30 this week and could not stop making cards with it! What a relief, because I haven't felt very creative lately with all my sinus crap and headaches. For this first card I made above, I pulled out the butterfly stamp from the retired hostess set Cause for Celebration. I love that butterfly and have never used it, so I decided "Use it, girlfriend!" I was stuck at first, so I fell back on an old crutch...the circle design card! Whenever you're stuck, use circles...you can't go wrong! I also pulled out a much ignored set, Sweet Sampler, and used it for the other two circles.

This next card below I found the Certainly Celery card 6 1/2" x 3 1/4" already cut and ready to go in my stash, and I really wanted to use some rub-ons since they are on special this month. See here for more details. I used a stamp from Sweet Sampler again and embossed it with Winter White Embossing Powder. It started out as a square, but I decided it needed to be a circle too. I LOVE that new 1 3/4" circle punch! The background was too plain, so I also dug out my much ignored Baroque Motifs set (I dropped it first and it landed on the still spilled buttons, pretty much
finishing them off!) Lastly, I added the "congratulations" rub-on from the level 3 hostess Holiday Happenings Bundle on the satin ribbon (old, from the Michael's $1 spot).


Then this last card, I ended up loving! I had the Ski Slope Old Olive patterned paper frame left over from a Top Note die cut and I had to save it because it was so perfect (that's rare for me!). I thought it would make a perfect picture frame for a holiday card. I also have some old envelopes from somewhere that fit a 5 x 7 card, so that's the size I made this. I put a thin row of dimensionals (you know, the edge piece) on three sides of the frame and left the top open to slip a picture in. That's my cousin's little girl, Sydney, isn't she a doll?! She's not camera shy at all, can you tell? That runs in our family.


I embossed the snowflake from Winter Post with Winter White Embossing Powder, then punched it out with the fabulous Curvy Label punch. I added the white "celebrate" rub-on from the retired SAB rub-on set, Love & Happiness.

So that's it for my trio! Don't you love these colors together, Old Olive, Certainly Celery, Sahara Sand, and Whisper White?! I never would have thought of them on my own, especially that Sahara Sand, I always forget about it!

Kristina's Color Inspiration #29: True Friend

Happy Thursday! Hope everyone is having a good week! Sorry I missed a few days there. I broke down Tuesday after school and went to the doctor...got some medicine for the sinus infection, so am hopefully on the road to recovery now.

After dinner tonight, I took a short 30 minute nap and then got up and decided to try Kristina's Color Inspiration #29. It's a doozy: Pacific Point, Taken with Teal, Elegant Eggplant, Pumpkin Pie, and Whisper White. They came together better than I expected. I have to admit, though, I went to my retired In Colors looking for Elegant Eggplant and couldn't find it. It's a current Rich Regal! Oops! What kind of SU demo does that make me?! One who never uses Elegant Eggplant, I guess! As far as that goes, I've maybe used Taken with Teal once in the last year, and I'm sure it was for a challenge card too! lol! But that's why these challenges are good, they make you go outside of your usual, predictable comfort zone.

Is it refreshing to see the old "True Friend" stamp set again?! I'm trying to break out some oldies. While blow drying my hair this morning, I actually had an idea for Beate's Inspiration Challenge, so I ran to my stamp room and started on it, using the True Friend stamp set. Somehow I thought I *might* be able to make a card, photograph the card, edit the photograph, upload it to the blog, and write a blog post all in 15 minutes. Ummm, it didn't happen! lol! I did almost finish the card, which is something for me, I'm usually so slow. I'll go finish it here in a little bit, decided I wanted to try Kristina's challenge before the deadline.

Kristina's Color Inspiration #26

Happy Thursday! I was so busy working Wednesday night on making page kits for my scrapping retreat this weekend (Can you believe it? See I took your great advice!) that I wasn't going to stamp, but I caved in at 10:00 and decided I'd do a card really *quickly* for Kristina's Color Inspiration Challenge #26. It didn't turn out that quick, unfortunately! But this is what I came up with. I'm probably using that 1 3/4" circle punch too much, huh? I just love it, though!

I love the colors in this week's challenge, you know Bashful Blue is my favorite. I had a slight panic if I could find where I stored my Wild Wasabi ink and cardstock, but I found it! Schwooo! I already had the Top Note Bigz die piece of So Saffron polka dot paper (it's adhered to chipboard, that's why it looks kind of thick) from Parisian Summer, so I decided to make it work. The card size is 4 1/4" square. The "Merry Christmas" sentiment is from the Season of Joy stamp set.

Okay, gotta dash. Still so much to do before the retreat, this teaching job is really getting in the way! hee! hee! Of course, it paid for the retreat, so I guess I better go! Thanks so much for stopping by! Hugs and happy stamping!
