Trick or Treat

Happy Friday!

I'm posting from a 4-day retreat with my girlfriends! Yay!

I played along with Retro Sketches for this one! Loved that pink polka dot paper so went with an unconventional color scheme.

Happy Birthday shout out to my mom! I wouldn't be here without her! She's my life-giver and life-saver!

Thanks for stopping by! Hugs & happy stamping!

Halloween Night

Happy Thursday night! I hear Friday night calling, it's almost here...

In the meantime, here's a little card I made for the Retro Sketches #30 challenge. Yep, more of that fabby paper I can't stop using, plus a *fierce* little Tim Holtz cat stamp, embossed in black!

Adios! Panic sitting in for what tomorrow is bringing and how I'll face it with 5 hours sleep, ha! Thanks for stopping by! Hugs and happy stamping!

J is for Jack-o-lantern

Happy Saturday! Yes, I know Halloween has officially passed, but I'm running late...as usual...and not quite done celebrating! ha!

I still had one card left to share, another one that didn't get picked up by Paper Crafts. The card below, however, did get picked up and you can find it in the September/October issue of Paper Crafts!

Have I mentioned it's only 2 more weeks until Thanksgiving week break?! Whoo! Hoo! I was sick all week, so it was a rough one! I did go to the doctor Wednesday after school and get antibiotics, so hopefully next week will be better! I survived making volcanoes on Friday with the kids, schwooo, were they excited! They probably could have just worn the safety googles and been content, that was a lot of excitement for them! ha! Scientists have to be safe during their experiments, you know, they never know what the outcome may be and something may blow up!

Okay, Chatty Cathy is out of here! Thanks so much for stopping by! Hugs and happy stamping!

Have a Wicked Halloween!

Happy Sunday! Hope you're having a great weekend! I don't know how they go so fast, waaaah!

This is a super quick and simple card...the first one I made when I got to the retreat a few weeks ago. I still have so much fun Halloween stuff I've barely used or not used at all, it's killing me! lol!

Off to finish getting ready for school tomorrow. My Smart Board light bulb went out first thing last Monday morning and I haven't been able to use my Smart Board for a week! Torture!! I'm using those 3-M post-it chart papers for something to write on, CRAZY! The tech guy was in the copy room Friday at lunch fixing the printer and I cornered him, but the bulb still wasn't here. I told him I couldn't work in these conditions, but he seemed unmoved. I just googled thinking maybe I'll find one locally and buy it myself. Ummm, no. They cost $400. However, while googling that, I found this hilarious photo of a teacher who has also experienced the anguish of a non-functioning Smart Board, check it out here!

Be sure and come back tomorrow for my 2S4Y card! Thanks so much for stopping by! Hugs and happy stamping!

Twick or Tweet: M's Sketch boo!

Happy Saturday...again! Luckily when I was checking out Amy's blog, I was reminded about M's Challenge (I lifted her darling photo!) and tonight was the deadline! So I whipped this little card up. Seeing the Rusty Pickle Costume Party ribbon package inspired me...love those black pom poms and orange torn fabric ribbon! I even splurged and cut into that yummy black and white paper from the SU mini catalog, yummm! Add a few Thickers, and voila!

Hope you're having a great day! Thanks so much for stopping by! Hugs and happy stamping!

Twick or Tweet: you make me smile!

Hiya peeps! Yes, it's really me with a post...just 2 days after the last one, a miracle! Just check my Google stats, I'm down to .9 posts per week! Aye yi yi! But no worries, I got enough cards made at my scrapbook retreat to tide me over for a little while! No, not 40 cards (whose crazy *ss goal was that, anyways?!), but enough for awhile! lol!

So, here is one. This is the first card I made at the retreat once I got unloaded and set up. I drank one small margarita (my only one all weekend actually!), made this card, then took a 2 hour nap. Ahhh, the good life! I finally got to use my Twick or Tweet stamp set, LOVE this one! I think I need to color the pumpkins in some more, you know watercoloring is not my strength! lol!

Okay, I better check on some school stuff and make sure I'm ready for Monday morning, sigh. I had such a great time at the retreat with my girlfriends, oh how I've missed them lately! Why does it have to go by so quickly?! I hope y'all had a great weekend too! Thanks so much for stopping by! Hugs and happy stamping!

Spooky: Dare to Get Dirty Sketch

Happy Saturday! Here's another little Halloween card I made with some leftover parts from my Catty Cruise: Scrappy Halloween post. I finally got a chance to check out the Dare to Get Dirty challenges over at Splitcoast, and I used Susan's sketch challenge DTGD09rainy for this card. It came together very easily, love it when that happens!

What are you up to this weekend? I need to get lots done before the SU convention next week, yikes! My friend Vina is getting married tomorrow, congrats!, and we're going to a Rangers game tomorrow night, plus we had our date night last night, so that's very busy for us! lol! Oh, by the way for those of you commenting about The Hangover, YES, it was hilarious!! Silly fun, but I haven't laughed that hard in a long time!

Okay, off to stamp! Thanks for stopping by! Hugs and happy stamping!

FYI: to make the ribbon yo-yo like the orange one here and like the yellow polka dot one seen here, see this tutorial.

Accessories: Spooky Treats rub-ons, Modern Label punch, 1" & 1 1/4" Circle punch, Basic Black brads, Pumpkin Pie 1 1/4" Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, Glue Dots, and Stapler.

Treats, a Mess, and a Halloween RAK from Lori!

Happy Friday and Happy Halloween! Who likes pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting?! I hope people at the school Trunk or Treat event do! The cheerleaders are manning a bake sale booth, so I whipped these up tonight for them. I made them for the scrapping retreat a few weeks ago, and they were a big hit. I'll come back and post the recipe if anybody is interested.

I made the tags out of SU Confetti White cardstock and the large tag punch (here's how you know you're tired: you look at the tags in the picture and panic and say "What are those spots all over the tags?!! Doh! Confetti cardstock!) and Pumpkin Pie cardstock with the Martha Stewart jack-o-lantern punch. Before I could make the tags, however, I had to walk into my stamp room and deal with this mess leftover from the previous night of failed stamping attempts:

Ugh! I could not get any mojo working last night while trying to do Kristina's Color Inspiration #28 challenge! You know when you're tired and feel like cr*p, but you don't want to give up?! (I'm also blaming Ashley, because I happened to see that awesome card and knew I couldn't come up with anything as cute! grrrr!) This has been a killer week for sinuses and allergies here in Dallas. I'm about ready to lop off my head entirely! And I know it's not just me, because my friend Lori told me she's going through the same thing.

Speaking of Lori, look at this adorable Halloween card she sent me! Don't you love the vintage feel and that tassel trim?! She knows I love the vintage! And I love this card, thank you and big, big hugs, Lori!!

Ummm, did anyone notice the fantastic job I did with smooth transitions between the above subjects?! That's not always easy to do, you know, as you can tell from most of my other posts! hee! hee! Well, off to school. Wish me luck, the kids have been WOUND UP all week and I think today is going to be the grand finale!

We are doing a cool thing today...a bunch of us are going to be mystery readers...we are dressing up like a character in a book and the students try to figure out who it is, then we read the book to the class. Fun, huh? We'll be going around to different classes all day doing this! I haven't dressed up for Halloween since, like college maybe, and of course I left it until 4:30 today to go to Border's and decide on a book, try to find a costume at the Halloween store (big mistake), go to the grocery store to get supplies for the baked goods (see above), go to Michael's to get packaging for the baked goods, come home to see if a costume will magically appear, prepare and package the baked goods, etc. Can you tell I'm a procrastinator?!

Okay, I've rambled on way tooooo long! Tell me about your big Halloween plans!

*Edited to add the recipe for easy and delicious pumpkin bars!

Pumpkin Bars
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 c. oil
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 can of pumpkin
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 2 t. cinnamon
  • 1 t. baking soda
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 t. baking powder

  • Beat eggs, oil, and sugars.
  • Add remaining ingredients and mix.
  • Grease & flour cookie sheet pan (sometimes I use 13 x 9 and it works great too).
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 20 - 25 minutes.

Frosting
  • 3 oz. cream cheese
  • 6 T. butter
  • 3 c. powdered sugar
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • 2 t. milk

Beat well and frost. I usually double the recipe for extra, extra frosting on the pumpkin bars!

Always: Happy Halloween

Happy Sunday! Can you believe this is the bird from the stamp set Always?! I was wishing I had a solid black bird to make a "raven" look with for a Halloween card. Then I realized I could stamp the Always bird in Versarmark, then take my Versamarker and fill/color in all the extra flowery parts of the stamp so that it became solid. Finally, I stamped it on white cardstock, covered it with black embossing powder and heat embossed it. It turned out so great and very striking on the white cardstock!

For this card, I did the same thing, but stamped it on the Kiwi Kiss patterned paper from the Ghostly Greatings DSP. It was a little harder to see it on the patterened paper than on the white cardstock to color in with the Versamarker, but it turned out okay I thought. I love this color combo with the Kiwi Kiss, Basic Gray, and Basic Black.

Hope your weekend is going great! We've had a great time at the retreat, I think we're leaving around 3:00. I've officially finished 6 pages so far...I started out aiming for a 1 drink to 1 page ratio, but I'm afraid the drinks surpassed the pages, yikes! But I did take your advice and walk around and talk to everyone and check out their projects, so I've made lots of new friends too. There were so many cool projects going on...digital scrapping with Photoshop, knitting, jewelery making, soldering...great stuff. More details later...

Thanks so much for stopping by! I really appreciate it! Hugs and happy stamping!

Stamps: Always
Cardstock: Basic Black, Whisper White, Ghostly Greetings DSP.

Silly Halloween Cards

Happy Wednesday!

I have to admit, last week when I was trying to make a card for Laura's Sketch #10 over at 2 Sketches 4 You, all I could see was a long bug! So I finally decided to go with it, and this is how it turned out! lol! The Kiwi Kiss card is 6 1/2" by 3 1/4" and I made that middle panel lift up with a surprise underneath:

While working on the bug card, I used a small piece of white cardstock to punch out the eyes with a 3/4" circle punch and the feet with the word window punch (I changed to black later, it looked better). Anyway, after punching, I had the leftover scrap of white and I kept seeing a silly face in it, so I used it to make this card:

I cut the hat freehand, but didn't love it, so I dragged the pointy end of the paper piercer over it to distress it some. Very quick and simple card, and silly, of course!

Hope your week is going well! Thanks so much for stopping by! Hugs and happy stamping!

3 More Splitcoast World Card Making Day Challenges

Happy Monday! I say 3 more Splitcoast World Card Making Day Challenges, but I got lucky and got 3 challenges done on 2 cards, and I didn't even know it! The card above I did for the World Card Makig Day Featured Stamper Challenge which was Sherry, check out her great gallery! I copied this card, changing the colors and the dry embossing to patterned paper.

When I finished and went back to read some more of the challenges, I saw this card would work for the Lemon Lime Twist Challenge too! You had to use lime green, lemon with a twist of orange, dark gray, black, and a neutral. Lucky me! The finished size is a 4 1/4" square, I became addicted to those over the weekend, they just seem more quick and easy somehow!

The following card was for the Autumn's Glory Inspiration Challenge, which I found the hardest. It was the fall cover of the Cold Water Creek magazine. I'm not a "leafy" person, so I improvised and came up with this. I kind of stole the from myself from this card. For the stamped flowers from the Upsy Daisy set, (I forget the name of the technique), but you color the image with your markers, then spritz it lightly with water, so the image kind of runs and gives you a Monet effect.

Well, I'm running a weeee bit late this morning, so I have to dash. I'll come back later and add the recipes. Thanks so much for stopping by, I really do appreciate it! Have a super day!

Recipe #1: Spooky Card
Stamps: Eat, Drink & Be Scary, Halloween Frights.
Cardstock: Basic Gray, Kiwi Kiss, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White, Ghostly Greetings DSP.
Ink: Staz-On Black.
Accessories: Photo Corner Punch, Tab Punch, Black Brads, 5/8" Kiwi Kiss Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, Dimensionals, Stapler.

Recipe #2: On My Mind Card
Stamps: Upsy Daisy.
Cardstock: More Mustard, Really Rust, Confetti White, Bella Rose DSP.
Ink: Really Rust, More Mustard, Pumpkin Pie, and Old Olive markers.
Accessories: Chocolate Chip Grosgrain Ribbon, Large Oval Punch, Paper Piercer, Dimensionals, water mist bottle.

Kristina's Color Inspiration #24 Trio

Happy Friday! Whoo! Hoo! I stayed up WAY too late working on these cards for Kristina's Color Inspiration #24! Why, oh why, do I do that?! You know how it is when you're too tired to stamp and come up with something (because you watched Survivor and the VP debate and it's now 10:00), but you keep trying, and you don't *love* what you made, so you keep trying, etc...ugh! Or maybe it's just me?!

Anyway, the card above was my first attempt. I tried to make myself not use designer series paper, which is not easy, and use a background stamp for a change, so I dug out an old favorite, Paisely. The rub-on is from the Level 3 hostess set, but it had a user-error malfunction (do NOT try to move it if it's sticking down any at all!), so I chopped the bottom off and tried to make it work anyway. The side had a slight malfunction too, so I found the fallish brad from my Target $1 Spot stash to disguise it.

For the next try, I broke out the Autumn Vine DSP from the SU Holiday Mini Catalog. It doesn't have Kiwi Kiss in it, but I tried to *force* it to work anyway! The word stamps are from the Halloween Frights stamp set, and the jack o'lantern is from the Martha Stewart punch.

Lastly, when I should have given up at 12:00 am, I tried for one more with some scraps. I punched a circle out of the cool Autumn Vine paper and added a Kiwi Kiss button. The "life is good" is from the Text and Texture stamp set. Probably should have put a piece of colored cardstock behind it. It's simple dimple at the most extreme! =)

So what are your big weekend plans (besides stamping, of course)? Saturday is World Card Making Day, so there's lots of exciting things going on! Check out specials and events at the Stampin' Up! website here and the official website here. Here's the flier with the specials from Stampin' Up!:
Have a great Friday! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Well Worn Alphabet Boo!

Happy Monday! Looks like I'm back to Halloween! I only had time to make one card at home this weekend (the horror! the shame!), so last night I made this because I wanted to use my new Martha Stewart Jack O'Lantern punch. Isn't he cute? It's hard to see, but he's even embossed. I had taken my Well Worn Alphabet to the crop, and as I was unpacking all my stuff, I thought it would make a good spooky card.

One last Monday morning share...here's a precious vintage flash card I bought back on my junking day with friends over at the White Elephant. I also found an awesome Santa Claus, PLUS Ms. Nguyen brought me another awesome Santa Claus one yesterday (a different size), totally made my day! "Jackie" is hanging on a metal display board my friend Lori gave me, and the board hangs on an old louvered bi-fold door. I need to get out the rest of my Halloween decorations this week, fun stuff!

Hope you have a great Monday! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Stamps: Well Worn Alphabet
Cardstock: Kiwi Kiss, Basic Black, Confetti White, GhostlyGreetings DSP.
Ink: Versamark.
Accessories: Black Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Black Brads, 5/8" Kiwi Kiss Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, Dimensionals, Martha Stewart Jack O'Lantern punch.

Spooky Week Day 7: Eek!

Happy Sunday! Here's the final installment of my spooky week, a little "eek!" card with a glittery spider web! I got the web idea and pretty much cased this fabulous card from Tobi Crawford. She has a great tutorial, so go check it out! I used a different glue and my SU chunky glitter, but I do love the look of hers with the finer glitter.

This will be another project for Stamp Club this month, which is coming up this Wednesday night and next Sunday. I'm sad to say I was not feeling the creative mojo this weekend, so thank goodness I had starred this project from Tobi in my Google Reader, thanks Tobi!

Also, did ya notice anything new with this post?! I've started going through and adding labels to all my posts. I never really knew how to do it and was shocked to find how easy it was. I knew the time had come when I got a nice email from a gal this weekend with a question about a mini album. I could not remember which mini album it was or where or when it was, etc so I had to go searching, ugh! lol! So I think the labels will come in very handy. I've currently done 175 posts out of 356...so a few more to go, but I'll get there!

Hope you you had a good weekend! Oh, a few people asked about the movie Burn After Reading...it was pretty good...and not dark and depressing like No Country for Old Men. From the previews, I thought it would be funnier and it seemed kind of slow at times, but I wasn't feeling great, so maybe it was just me. And this is very shallow of me, but it was weird spending 2 hours watching George and Brad and not finding them attractive at all! I guess they really can act! hee! hee!

Thanks for stopping by! Have you stamped something today?

Recipe
Stamps: Eat, Drink & Be Scary Cardstock: Kraft, Ghostly Greetings DSP, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White. Ink: Staz-On Black. Accessories: Big Shot, Go Go Alphabet, BlackGrosgrain Ribbon, Black Chunky Glitter, 3/4" and 1" Circle Punch, White Glue.

Spooky Week Day 6: Halloween Frights play Scrabble

Happy Saturday! This Spooky Day 6 is running a day late, sorry! By Fridays I'm just so pooped and I took a 2 hour nap then watched the movie No Country for Old Men with dh...not exactly a happy little show...so I got no stamping done. My students always can't wait for Friday Night Smackdown (wrestling, ewww!), but personally, I can't wait for Friday Night Napdown! That's what I call it, hee! hee!

So anyway, after getting coffee with dh this morning, I came home and made this little card using Beate's Weekend Sketch #58. I got these Scrabble tiles awhile back on my junking day with friends at Junkadoodle. I always buy them when I see them because they're great for my students to use. I couldn't help but pull just a few out to make this card, though!

Okay, guess I better get moving! Dh and I are *planning* to go see Burn After Reading (ironically, another Coen Brothers movie, but hopefully a little lighter than last night's choice!) if we can get our lazy b*tts moving! lol! We planned on going last weekend, but with the wind and rain, etc we just holed up inside all weekend.

What are you up to this weekend? The weather has been AMAZING in Dallas this week, and from what I've been reading on your blogs, it's been pretty nice all over. I hope everyone suffering from Hurricane Ike fallout has their power back on and is getting the help they need.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have you stamped something today?

Recipe
Stamps: Halloween Frights
Cardstock: Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black, Whisper White, Ghostly Greetings DSP.
Ink: Pumpkin Pie, Staz-On Black.
Accessories: Scallop Edge Punch, Black Hemp, Black Eyelets, Scrabble Tiles.
