Scrapbook Sunday #24: sisters

Happy Sunday! How is your weekend going? Mine is going by fast and I still have tons to do. I was supposed to crop last night, but couldn't make it, so sad. They were texting me from Scooter's (the bar next door!)...just to let me know much fun I was missing! I actually went to bed at 9:00! Who am I?! lol!


Since I showed a page last Sunday of my sister's wedding, I thought I would share another page from her wedding, this one of the sisters. I look at this now and think why on earth did I wear large-scale polka dots?! What was I thinking?! Actually the timing was crazy (pre-TAKS test), so we flew out on Friday and back on Saturday night, AND I waited until I got there to go shopping for something to wear. I will never do that again!


For page details, it's hard to see in the photo but the paper is a beautiful, palish pink damask. That paper is adhered to black 12x12 cardstock, it's hard to see in the photo. Most of the embellishments are from an old Jenni Bowlin kit.

Splitcoast VSN Winter Olympics Challenge: Red Mittens

This card was for the Red Mitten challenge, using red and white and wool or yarn. Hmmmm, just as I started writing this, I realized I had not used wool or yarn for my card, doh! So I stopped the writing and went back to the stamp table and made this card, using red wool for the letters:

Happy Thursday! It's almost Friday, thank goodness! This has been a rough teacher week, dealing with some unpleasant things. But the kids are awesome, always entertaining me. I had a cold last week and was coughing and one girl asked, "Do you have boogers in your throat?" Hmmm, never thought of it quite like that...


While I was getting some students ready for after-school tutoring last night, that same girl asked, "How do you get picked for tutoring? Why I never get picked for tutoring?" I said, "It's just my favorites." She's thinking hard and says, "Oh, okay" very seriously so I have to say, "Do you believe that?" She did, so I had to explain that I was just joking, etc. My humor and jokes don't always work with the 2nd graders! lol!


We did have a fun night Tuesday at our Nachos and Numbers Math Night. Kids and parents played math games, then they earned a punch on their punch card. Once their punch card was filled, they got free nachos. Then they got to take copies of the games home. They also estimated the amounts of objects in jars and the closest estimate won the jar. They all stayed until the very end to see who won, so that was cool. I didn't get home until 8, so it made for a very long day, but it was good.


Okay, I'm quite the chatty Cathy today, sorry about that! This is a little card I made over the weekend. I came across some 7 Gypsies flash card things and some Tim Holtz old image things and thought they would be fun to use. I could not get an unblurry picture of the inside of the card, sorry about that!

Fox & Friends: thank you owlie

Happy Tuesday! How has your week started?! Dallas predicts a little more snow and the way media reports it, you'd think Armageddon was coming! It was supposed to start at midnight last night, but nothing has happened yet...


I pulled this Old Olive card base out the other night and it had this brown polka dot (from retired Bella Rose or something like that) scallop strip already attached, so I decided to use it. I decorated the front and all and then noticed it was upside down with the way the strip was attached, yikes! Easy fix, just cut the Old Olive front piece off the card and attached it to a Chocolate Chip card base. There's always a solution, right?!

Happy Monday! Thought I would share a card I made for my sister-in-law's birthday, that was one week ago today. She checks the blog so I didn't want to post it before she got it. I used Mark the Date (I seem to go to this one a lot for birthdays, maybe I need to *shop* some more!) with a Sweet Pea Stitched Felt flower. Hope you had a great day, even if you were chauffeuring all day, Amy!


How could the weekend be over already?! I stayed up too late again...I was thinking around 10:00...wasn't there something else I was supposed to do? Ack, make swaps for an Artisan Swap that are due the 26th! Double ack! So I made the prototype, just need to tweak it some, then mass production tonight, not a big mass, just ten.


The kids have a half day of school today while the teachers have In Service training, guess that will break the day up some. We have a LOT of training. DH likes to ask me frequently if I'm trained yet, apparently not! lol!

Scrapbook Sunday #23: Karen and Steve ever after

Happy Sunday! How is it already 3:30?! Yikes! I had way too much school stuff to do and that has left me feeling a little crabby! lol! I'm pretty much finished now, so finally, some creative time! Yippee!


Time for Scrapbook Sunday! This is another page I made from a weekend crop some time back (using mostly goodies from an old Jenni Bowlin kit) of my sister's wedding. You may remember her from this page and her wedding and church from this post. She's having a baby boy this March, so I'll have a new nephew to scrap soon! One of these days, I keep telling myself, I will do some new scrapping!

Sweet Pea Thank You

Happy Saturday! Hope your weekend is off to a great start! This is just a simple dimple little card I made the other night after I finished up this card, had some leftover parts laying around, ya know! I'm loving all the Stampin' Up! Sweet Pea felt and designer series paper from the Occasions Mini Catalog, it sure makes cards come together quickly!


Okay, so the post office story...I probably shouldn't have built it up that much, because it's not that great! ha! I have learned, however, that anytime you go to the post office, you will come back with a "post office story", it's inevitable! A couple of weeks ago an older man went off on a younger man for talking on his cell phone in line, then he went off on the clerk because that self-serve machine only took debit cards and he didn't have one. Note to self: when I get old(er), try to stay up with technology, no matter how hard it is!


So Monday I was at the teacher workshop and we get a long break for lunch, so I decided to go to the post office to mail two packages, even though it was President's Day, figuring I can use the self-serve machine. I get there and, of course, there are no priority boxes at all (that could be a separate rant!). I decide to go to the store and get some mailer boxes/envelopes and go back since I have a lot of time.


I get back and there are now 3 people at the self-serve machine, and the couple using it have a LARGE trash bag filled with padded envelopes to be mailed. They take them all out, there's over 30! (Yes, I count, I'm anal!) I realize there's no way I have time to wait now, but the two men waiting in front of me only have envelopes, and I'm feeling really badly that they have to wait. I'm thinking maybe they just need stamps and I have some in my purse, so maybe I should help them out. So here's how it goes:

Me (to the first guy in line with a business-size white envelope): Is that all you're mailing? Do you just need a stamp?

Guy #1 (looking at me surprised): Yes.

Me: I have a stamp I can give you, if you don't mind it being a Christmas stamps. (I never sent Christmas cards, you know.)

Guy #1: I don't know, it may be too thick and need extra stamps.

Me: Let me see it. (He hands it over.) I think one is enough, but here, take 3 stamps, just in case.

He's grateful, offers to pay, I say no, blah, blah, blah, he leaves.


Now the next guy has a large manila envelope, but it looks pretty thin. He never looked at me or the other guy during this last transaction of mine. So I'm going to leave, but I still feel bad leaving him standing there waiting.


Me: Do you just need some stamps?

Guy #2: Yes, but I don't know how many I'll need for this.

Me: Let me see it. (He hands it over.) It's pretty light.

Guy #2: That's what I thought, but last time it was like $4.00.

Me: Well, I have 7 stamps left. That's like what, $3.00. (I'm not even sure how much a first class stamp is right now!) You can have them if you want to try it.

Guy #2: Hmmm, thanks, but I better wait.


So I leave, but feel terrible that he's having to wait, that couple still has like 25 packages left. Anyhow, that's it. I was telling dh later and he's like "You're not normal, you know. I can't believe you asked people for their letters and they just handed them over to you. (He doesn't really talk to strangers, I do.) I guess that did seem kind of strange after I thought about it, I think it's just all my years in the retail/service industry before teaching. You know, move the line through, move the line through...lol!

365 Cards: Day 351 Sketch "hi"

Happy Friday!! Bad news! I stayed up tooooo late working on lesson plans for next week...and I didn't even finish, ugh...I'm going to need a large coffee with an extra shot today! Yesterday the kids spilled my diet coke at lunch, and I almost had a melt down! You may remember we don't have a coke machine! Luckily my principal learned from the last time I didn't have a diet coke and now keeps an emergency stash in his office...he gave me 3! lol!


On to the card...I made this one last Sunday for the 365 Cards Day 351 sketch. They're having all-sketch challenges this week and my plan was to keep up every day...yeah, that didn't happen! This one uses all SU goodies except for the wool used to make the "hi" letters. One of my pre-paper-crafting hobbies (come on, I know you have some too!) was rug hooking , so I have a small stash of wool...along with the fancy rug hooking frame my dad made me with the rug still on it...left over. Score! Chance to use up my some OLD supplies! heeee!

Kazan's Sketch #46: My Best Work

Happy Thursday! Friday is near!


Here's a little card I whipped up the other night for Kazan's Sketch #46 over at 2S4Y. I used some new Jillbean goodies that Cath sent me for winning the Moxie Fab Color Play challenge awhile back. Gotta love those free goodies! Isn't that little schoolhouse paper just perfect for me to share with a teaching friend?! I have to thank Heather for the inspiration for my pink background from her card here. Isn't the pink so unexpected and fun with the earth tones?


I finished my teacher workshop yesterday...after a rocky start. Two teachers at my table (not the good one who liked my poem!) got into a nasty fight at the beginning of class! They were seriously one step away from "Why don't you make me?" It was like being in school! ha! As for me, a person who does not like fighting and avoids confrontation if at all possible (see why I'm still happily married? ha!), I squirmed in my chair and rotated my head 3/4 the way around...think Linda Blair in the Exorcist...and tried to listen to the teacher. Yup, she was teaching. Crazy! I'll have to remember to tell you next time about my post office experience on Monday, yup, when they were closed for President's Day...


Okay, is it too early to start the Spring Break countdown?! I think not! 17 more school days!

Happy Wednesday! How is your week going? I'm off to the last day of my Six Traits of Writing workshop, wish me luck because I think I offended the teacher on Monday. We were focusing on word choice, and we had to write a poem on a topic we chose that had to do with "love". I chose a "non-traditional" topic (I just have a weird sense of humor!) and it seemed more original than all the "true love", "first kiss", "wedding day" topics that were going on all around me. I thought my poem was awesome, but the teacher didn't laugh and she didn't pick it to share with the class. Humph! One girl at my table really liked it and we couldn't stop laughing. I really liked that girl! =)


I whipped this card up last weekend for Jen's Sketch For You To Try! Jen's awesome and I loved this sketch and the whole card actually came together very quickly...which is quite unusual for me! lol! I used all SU goodies, I'm loving their new paper and accessories in the Spring Occasions Mini!
