Laura's Sketch #24: mom!

Happy Wednesday! Hope everyone is having a great week! So far so good here...the kids are working hard and I'm loving them to death!

I worked on a couple of cards for Mother's Day, and since I know my mom doesn't check my blog (much? ever? they have dial-up, I don't blame her! lol!), I can go ahead and share this one. I used Laura's Sketch #24 from over at 2 Sketches 4 You. I didn't get to do their sketch last week and that bummed me out!

The card started with some scraps of paper and a chipboard flower on my desk, then I decided on the crisp white background with added texture from the Cuttlebug Swiss Dot folder, and then some Thickers. I needed an accent color and started digging through my ribbon and found this very old black and white stripe (I *think* it's Lil Davis from when Jenni Bowlin designed for them), which then prompted me to remember some very old Heidi Swapp black and white journaling notes...and miracle of miracles, I actually found them! lol! That's it, it all fell together then! Oh, the white circle has rub-ons from the SU Summer Love Rub-Ons from the Occasions Mini Catalog.

So I'm trying to decide what to do next year with my teaching...stay with the RTI (Response to Intervention) helping struggling students in small groups or go back into the classroom as a regular teacher? I'm really feeling pulled in the second grade direction, even though I used to teach 3rd grade. Any thoughts?! There are advantages and disadvantages to both, of course. Our administration did share exciting plans about new facilities for us next year, it will be so awesome for our students and teachers!

Okay, better dash! Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your love! Y'all are the best! Hugs and happy stamping!

(p.s. I went ahead and scheduled this to post at 4 a.m. since Amy is probably already up...let's see if she's reading blog posts this early! hee! hee!)

Scheduled a 4 AM post, yikes!
As for as teaching, or anything else, I fully believe there's a reason for the still small voice inside. ~ Go with that.
Cute card!

First, let me tell you how much I ADORE your card!!!

Secondly, our district is going through the same dilemma. We are "grouping" the students, which is really old fashioned but seems to work really well. We do have another teacher come in and team teach....good luck with whatever you decide!

...sweet mother of pearl...I love your card...and so will your mom!!!! My mom never checks my blog either...she isn't dial up...rolling my eyes...

I think you'll do fabulous in whatever direction you pick in teaching...a big woot woot for you and all the other teachers out there {do you notice there are a ton of paper crafters that are teachers?!}. You all have such an important job and me being a momma to 2 kids, I absolutely appreciate you all.

Good luck with making your decision for your job. I'm sure you will make the right one for you. Let us know what you decide!!

Very cute card. Your mom will love it.

Go for the second grade option. My mom taught second grade and she loved it because they were old enough to not be babied but young enough that they weren't terribly bratty! I think you owe it to the second graders out there. If I were in second grade, I would want you as MY teacher!

Awesome awesome card!!!! Your mom WILL love this! It's a winning card in my eyes!!

I think 1st-3rd graders are adorable. After that I get picky :p I use to help a 3rd grade teacher and it was always so fun. No 2nd grade experience but they're still so enthuse about learning and so so sweet -- or most of them :p

Your card is gorgeous Angie, I love that ribbon, it makes the whole card just zing - beautiful take on the sketch!!

Teaching...go with your heart!! If you feel pulled by 2nd grade, than do it - I think you AND the kids will benefit!! As for here, it is a sad day for teachers - 19 of them, 7 of whom are my friends, received slips telling them they will not be needed next year.....some of been with the school over ten years....very sad day for education!

What a fab card, Angie! I'm diggin' the colors, and you know I love me some white Swiss Dots! ;)

Hmm...hard to suggest what to do in the teaching area. Personally, I don't think I'd really be happy if I didn't have my own classroom, but that's just me...and what do I know? I CHOSE to teach high schoolers! HA! :D

I'm curious about your RTI position this year--is it part of a larger PLC effort? Do you stay in the same school and push in to classrooms, working closely with some teachers? Our principal is threatening (not in a bad way) to go down the RTI route at our school next year, implementing school-wide times for reteaching blocks, during which any available specialist/aide/warm body would be assigned a classroom to work in. I think it's an interesting idea. Anyway, I've taught second grade, ESOL, and am currently teaching Spanish as a FLES teacher to kids in second grade. I love second graders, and while I've found it difficult to be on the fringes in some regards (not having my own classroom or being a gen ed teacher), I also find some real benefits to my job as well--I taught the same group last year in first grade and it's a lot of fun to see the kids grow over multiple years. And there's just less pressure--parents interface with the gen ed teachers more, I'm not pulled in as many directions, I get more bathroom breaks (hah!)--I'm sure you have some of the same set-up. One thing I've learned through switching hats is that change is fun and good, and not a permanent commitment. (I used to be scared of not teaching second grade as a gen ed teacher. Now I know I can enjoy all sorts of different jobs in the same school, and it keeps me fresh.) You probably know all of this--whatever your decision, you really can't go wrong. You can always decide to do something different the following year! Anyway, I have your blog bookmarked--perfect mix of amazing cards and fun school stories. Thanks for sharing! --Elena

what a great card using scraps (very Earth-friendly!) you should do what your heart is telling you - 2nd grade, fun age!

I love how your card came together! I love hearing about the process too.

It sounds like you already know what you want to do next year - teach second grade. I would love for my kids to have a second grade teacher like you!

I love the card! Very fun! :)

I think many people have said this as far as what to teach next year, but its good advice, so I will say it again...listen to your heart and what you feel. Its telling you what to do! :)
Let us know what you decide! :)
